To ensure that we can continue to offer you a wide range of high-quality products from our own farm in the future, we are currently building a new cattle barn for our animals. The cold air barn with outdoor access for our cows and bulls (oxen) is being built in accordance with current organic farming standards and allows the animals plenty of freedom of movement on a straw bedding area. The optimal barn climate is achieved through a natural ventilation system. A large skylight will be installed in the roof structure to provide plenty of daylight in the animals' living area. Both of these factors are very important for the vitality of the cattle, in addition to their basic feed! The straw bedding areas will be automatically cleaned and re-strewn several times a day – there will be no concrete bedding areas, rubber mats, or even slatted floors in the new barn.
The animals are fed via an automatic feed distributor, which supplies them with the correct amount of hay several times a day. The feed distributor is filled automatically from the feed bunker, so that manual intervention is only necessary in the event of a malfunction. The feed bunker then only needs to be filled every few days using the hay crane from the hay storage hall. In future, we will deliberately refrain from using silage and concentrated feed for feeding, even if this means a reduction in yield in favor of animal welfare.
In the future, a walkway bridge over the stables will also provide a direct view of the agricultural work in the stable. Farmer Franz is happy to show you the stable and explain his daily work with the animals!
For those who are familiar with the Ponyhof holiday village: the stable will be located next to the existing riding hall and will continue to be easily accessible to everyone in the future. The old barn/stable will remain largely unchanged for the time being – its future use has not yet been decided.
